Another new year dawns, offering the chance to wipe the slate clean and hopefully make some realistic resolutions we can stick to. However, making resolutions shouldn't be about things we can't do (or eat), instead they should focus on the positive, committing to do things that will make us feel and live better. Promise yourself you'll take more time out and be mindful – our no-nonsense guide has some achievable ideas to try – or decide that 2020 will be the year you start to grow your own veg. Or perhaps pledge to be more adventurous in the kitchen using seasonal, plant-based foods?
To inspire you, we've got a 10-page feature of vegan-friendly dishes, which we've created with Veganuary in mind. But you don't have to be vegan to enjoy these recipes – they are ideal for the whole family. And if anyone perfectly represents the benefits of living a vegan lifestyle it's busy TV presenter and celebrity mum Fearne Cotton, who shares some of her own plant-based twists on fast food favourites.
After all that cooking and entertaining during the festive season, many of us crave a quieter life in January, so we've got some great ideas for fuss-free, quick cooking with Monisha Bharadwaj's seven-ingredient Indian dishes, fast and feisty stir-fries from wok star Ching He Huang, plus Chava Eichner's thrifty ideas for using up those Christmas leftovers.
Finally, we know we're all supposed to be cutting back after the holiday excesses, but there's no better way to beat those January blues than with coffee and cake. Bake Off contestant Flora Shedden now runs the Aran Bakery in Perthshire, and her tempting bakes will certainly brighten your day.
Happy New Year!
