Autumn leaves are turning and night falls ever earlier, which means many of us arrive home in darkness at this time of year. Cravings for comfort food really kick in now – we want to tuck in to a richly spiced curry, a slow-cooked stew or a veggie bake, and maybe even a lovely pud to follow. You'll find plenty of inspiration for hearty yet still healthy dishes (well, maybe the desserts are a bit of a treat!) in this issue's comfort food feature, while Rachel Demuth takes her lead from the Danish concept of hygge, with Scandinavian dishes that have the feelgood factor too. Spices are naturally warming and North African tagines are a wonderful way to include them in your autumn cooking.
Food writer Meera Sodha is known for her love of spices and bold flavours, and she shares three favourite recipes with an Eastern twist, including her must-make chocolate miso brownies.
November is also the month of fireworks parties and it's a great excuse to host a gathering. Chava Eichner has whipped up a warming supper that's perfect for Bonfire Night, while if you're keen to take entertaining to the next level you must try Gordon Ramsay's elegant dishes, all simple to make using seasonal ingredients but still with a little Michelin-star sparkle.
