When October comes around, even the seasonal produce takes on the russet, orange and golden tones of autumn leaves, as homegrown ingredients take centre stage. In this issue, we're celebrating some of the highlights of the season, focusing on orchard fruits including pears and apples, family-friendly recipes for the humble carrot and nut-based dishes, plus you'll find plenty of ideas for autumn squash too.
As the weather turns a little chillier, it's a time to enjoy a spot of comfort cooking, and nothing beats a hearty homemade pie. Choose from our tasty array using handy ready-made pastry, while our vegan columnist Chava Eichner rustles up pastry-free pies that don't require any kneading or rolling.
We've also got some characteristically vibrant recipes from one of our favourite TV chefs – Jamie Oliver. He's gone veggie with his latest book, and we know you'll love his weekend dishes that you can throw together quickly and leave to cook slowly for minimum fuss.
Elsewhere, we feature YouTube star Rachel Ama, who delights her fans with her flavour-led approach to vegan cooking, often inspired by her African and West Indian roots. You'll love her clever twist on 'tuna' pasta, while her colourful African peanut stew is deservedly our cover star this month, with its rich spicy flavours.
Many of us can't resist Asian-inspired dishes, and Wagamama has become a favourite high-street dining destination in recent years. With the launch of a new cookbook, you can now recreate some of their classic dishes at home, including their perfectly autumnal shiitake mushroom donburi.
With so much delicious recipe inspiration on offer, who needs to go out to eat anyway?
