Perfect for your own afternoon tea


  • 200g (8oz) self- raising flour
  • 50g (2oz) butter or margarine
  • 1 beaten egg with enough milk to make 125ml (¼ Pint)
  • 50g (2oz) Flahavan’s Irish Oats
  • 25g (1oz) caster sugar


Stage 1

Preheat the oven to 200°C/400°F/Gas Mark 6.

Stage 2

Blend the oats in a food processor until they are quite fine.

Stage 3

Add to the sifted flour and caster sugar and mix well.

Stage 4

Add the butter or margarine and rub in with fingertips until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. The food processor can also be used.

Stage 5

Add the egg and milk (keeping a little back to brush the scones) and mix until soft dough is made.

Stage 6

Roll out the dough on a floured surface to ½? thickness and cut into rounds using a pastry cutter.

Stage 7

Place on a greased baking tray and brush the tops with egg and milk.

Stage 8

Bake for about 20 minutes, until the scones are golden brown and firm to the touch.
