When the fun and festivities are over, thoughts inevitably turn inwards as we head into January. We ask ourselves, what can we do better this year? What would we like to achieve? It's a great idea to have goals to motivate us to be our best selves, and if you make resolutions that are positive and realistic you'll have a much better chance of sticking to them! If you're giving plant-based eating a go for Veganuary, this issue is packed with vegan inspiration – from scrumptious baking (page 72) to Rita Serano's everyday meals for the whole family (page 62), spicy Mexican favourites (page 56), and dishes using healthy greens and nutrient-packed seeds (page 36). Plus we've got some great ideas for making your own meat-replacement products to recreate your fast food favourites, from MasterChef contestant Jackie Kearney (page 66). While 'self care' became a buzz phrase of 2018, Green Party co-leader Siˆan Berry is urging everyone to think about 'planet care' when it comes to making new year resolutions. The environmental challenges facing our planet can seem overwhelming, but she reminds us that individual action is hugely powerful when enough of us come together to effect change (page 32). Although it may be the season of fresh starts, it's easy to succumb to the January blues after Christmas has passed. But a warming winter dish is food for the soul, so we've got hearty one-pan wonders (page 46), and tasty make-ahead dishes proving your slow cooker can do so much more than stew (page 88).
Wishing you all a happy, healthy new year!
Lindsey Harrad, Managing Editor
