This November, Vegetarian Living hits a pretty major milestone. After developing thousands of mouth-watering recipes and reviewing countless crisp new cookbooks since September 2010, this copy in your hands is our 100th shiny new magazine. Looking back at our very first issue, it's been fascinating to see how veggie and vegan food has progressed even further into the mainstream in under a decade. We spotted a classic recipe for stuffed baked peppers, which inspired our food writer Katy McClelland to go retro with her midweek meal ideas this month, taking some (perhaps rather dated) classic veggie recipes such as homity pie and mushroom stroganoff and revamping them with a few contemporary twists (page 52). In celebration of this event, and with an eye on the festive season ahead, we're exploring fantastic feasts – and where to find them. We have an indulgent Italian menu from Jamie Oliver (page 46), while Rachel Demuth prepares oven-roasted platters for sharing (page 40), and River Cottage chef Gill Meller rustles up an autumnal bonfire supper (page 64). Our vegan columnist Chava Eichner goes Stateside with Thanksgiving-inspired dishes ideal for any family gathering (page 68), Kate Hackworthy celebrates our milestone issue with showstopping cakes (page 74), and we've even got appropriately veg-packed vegan birthday cupcakes too (page 50). It wouldn't be a special issue without featuring a celebrity or two, and this month we have super-simple recipes from the hugely successful plant-based blogger and entrepreneur Ella Mills (page 34). In her latest Deliciously Ella book, one remark really struck a chord with the team here: 'I don't think we'll ever get near our five-a-day if we don't shift the negative views on healthy eating – I've met too many people who think eating a plant-based diet means you only eat lettuce leaves!' She's absolutely right – and I like to think that with our tempting recipes, gorgeous photography and inclusive editorial, Vegetarian Living is doing its bit to help more people embrace this vibrant, nourishing and delicious way of eating.
