Leading retailer's top picks for Christmas

Festive food trends

Online retailer Ocado has revealed its predictions for the top food and drink trends for this year's festive season. For entertaining, canapés with global flavours are going to be on-trend. A Mintel report suggests that one in five people say that 'newer' world cuisines such as Middle Eastern food have replaced more common cuisines in their household. In response, Ocado has brought out Christmas spiced

Alcohol features heavily in this year's menu, and not just an after-dinner drink. It is increasingly being used to enhance the flavour of food, with the retailer reporting a 71 per cent increase in the sales of alcohol-infused products such as chocolate, ice cream and condiments. Boozy desserts are tipped to be hugely popular too and look out for cheeses laced with alcohol also.
Interestingly, Ocado is predicting a vegan peak this year, following a staggering growth in sales from the plant-based food category. Good news for veggie and vegans who can expect to see plenty of delicious alternatives to the traditional roast this year.
