Meet the Maker: Pudding Perfection

Born in Provence, Charlotte Dauzat grew up with a passion for simple, natural and
healthy foods. After working as a marketing director in Brazil for Italian restaurant chain Spoletto, she had plenty of experience running innovative projects in the food
industry and decided to put her skills to use creating her own brand. 'I started Gato
& Co because as a food lover with a massive sweet tooth, I believed it was high time someone brought holistically healthier, more natural and sustainable desserts to the supermarket shelves.'
After quitting her job in Brazil and returning to Europe, she trained at Le Cordon Bleu cookery school in London and following a few intense months of planning and
recipe testing, Gato & Co was born. The range features individually packaged
chilled desserts in glass pots and currently there are three flavours: velvety chocolate fondant with aubergine, zingy orange and lemon polenta drizzle with turmeric, and gooey chocolate and coconut brownie with chia. 'We are free from gluten, dairy and refined sugar and use only wholesome and natural ingredients, yet have absolutely no compromise on great taste,' she says.
'Each of our puddings also incorporates a superfood, such as spirulina, turmeric or chia for that added healthy bonus!'
Charlotte says customer feedback has been fantastic so far and one of the best moments for the business has been launching in Selfridges and selling out in just four hours. 'Seeing our pots fly off the shelves will never cease to be an amazing
moment for me,' she says. 'But our biggest challenge has been starting from nothing and trying to get people to take the brand seriously in the very early stages. But it was all worth it when we launched in Sainsbury's and Ocado within the same
week! Usually it takes around three years to get into supermarkets, so it was an amazing achievement for us to have launched in under a year of starting and really showed that we were on to something.'
Although the Gato & Co puds are dairyfree they do contain honey so they are not
vegan-friendly, but Charlotte says this is something they are planning to address.
'We are actually currently developing a new product range – which is vegan and • Gato & Co desserts are available from Sainsbury's, Selfridges and Ocado. Find out
